— means: not out yet. Sizes appear when the files exist. Download counts start at zero with the release. Only real people count: downloads by bots are filtered out.
You cannot install the alpha
Alpha 0.1 only runs inside AstraOS Starter: a small program that opens AstraOS in a window on your computer. Nothing gets installed and nothing on your computer changes. Before the first start, the Starter asks whether AstraOS may count anonymously that it is being used.
From the beta: install it
With the beta (1 December 2026), AstraOS Starter becomes Astra Install Helper. Then you can install AstraOS on your PC or put it on a USB stick for another PC. More on the Starter page.
What you need
- A computer with Windows, Linux or macOS
- A normal PC processor (x86/x64) or an ARM processor – the Starter will run on both
- Memory (RAM): AstraOS itself needs only 64 MB; for apps we recommend 2 GB
- Internet for the download
Is my download the real one?
Download AstraOS only from astraos.page. With the release we will show a check number (SHA-256) next to every file. With it you can check that your file is exactly the one we published.
Parts from others
AstraOS is our own system. A few small parts come from others. We name them and follow their licences:
- Limine – the small start program that loads AstraOS (boot loader)
- BusyBox 1.35 – tools for the terminal (GPL licence – its source code comes with the release)
- Bibata Modern Ice – mouse pointers (GPL-3.0)
- Inter – the font (SIL Open Font Licence)
- Fluent icons – icons (MIT)
Versions
Pre-alpha is what exists today. Alpha 0.1 comes on 10 November 2026, the beta on 1 December 2026. Version 1.0 only comes when all three goals are met: apps from Windows, Linux and macOS run directly, the system is proven secure, and every app runs on normal PCs and on ARM computers. Dates can move – we will tell you honestly. See versions and dates.
