About AstraOS
Who we are and what we build.
AstraOS is a new operating system, built completely from scratch – with its own kernel, and no Linux or Windows inside.
The idea
An operating system that is small, fast and secure, and runs on simple computers too. The system alone needs only 64 MB of RAM; for apps we recommend 2 GB. AstraOS runs on x86-64 and ARM64. It is not based on Linux, and the kernel contains no Linux or Windows code.
How AstraOS gets built
There is no company behind AstraOS. One person who does not program decides what gets built. AI assistants write the code – and every step is tested before it shows up here. How it all started is in the story.
Where we are
- Pre-alpha. Alpha 0.1 arrives on 10 November 2026 at 19:00 and runs in a window on Windows with the AstraOS Starter.
- Beta on 1 December 2026. Dates can move.
- Simple Linux programs (ELF) and Windows programs (.exe) already start.
- Bigger programs do not work yet.
- So far tested only in virtual computers, not yet on real hardware.
- The source code is private and stays private.
For press and blogs
Feel free to describe it as: “AstraOS – an independent operating system with its own kernel”. Logo: logo.svg. Contact: team@astraos.page.
The only official website is astraos.page. AstraOS has nothing to do with projects with similar names, for example “Astra Independent Operating System” (astraos.dev).
