AstraOS

A lightweight operating system
64 MB minimum – desktop included.

AstraOS is a lightweight operating system with its own kernel: a 64 MB minimum for the system with desktop, 2 GB recommended for apps. Facts and limits.

What “lightweight” means here

For AstraOS it is a number, not a feeling: the operating system itself must run in 64 MB of memory, and 2 GB are recommended so that apps have room. The kernel is about 816 KB.

What fits in 64 MB

The test starts the system in a virtual computer with exactly 64 MB, every time. It is not tested on real old hardware yet.

How it compares

Many Linux distributions are small too, but need more memory with a desktop. See the fair comparison, the page about 64 MB of RAM and the own kernel.

AstraOS is an early pre-alpha. Alpha 0.1 comes on 10 November 2026 at 19:00 and runs in a window with AstraOS Starter for Windows. Everything below is tested in a virtual computer, not yet on real hardware.
