One OS for ARM64 and x86-64
The same system on two processor types.
AstraOS is built for x86-64 and ARM64. The ARM64 version boots to the desktop in a virtual computer, with USB keyboard and mouse. Honest status and plans.
Two processor types
x86-64 is in most PCs. ARM64 is in many phones, tablets and newer laptops. AstraOS is built for both, so that the same apps can run on both.
Status today
- The ARM64 version starts to the desktop in a virtual ARM computer (3 November 2026).
- USB keyboard and mouse work there; devices are found from the hardware description.
- Programs run in their own space and can start other programs; a Linux shell (BusyBox) runs.
Not done: real ARM hardware is not tested yet.
Read the devlog: AstraOS boots on ARM64 and Linux shell on ARM. Related: own kernel.
